The intersection of sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and theoretical linguistics
Using quantitative, experimental, and computational research methods, my collaborators and I ask questions like:
- How do we remember and process linguistic variables?
- What's the relationship between our grammatical knowledge and our knowledge of how to use language in the real world?
- How does systematic linguistic variation in the community emerge from the real-time decisions of individual speakers?
- When and how should observed variability be integrated into grammatical frameworks?
